With a big flat side like that I'll have a crack and say it's a kombi with Fuchs on it.

924 rally car..... It wasn't a London sydney car, or was it?

Last time I saw it was the 1984 National Meeting, in Melbourne

924 Group 4 Rallye 1979 Repco Round Australia event

The 1st 924 into Australia, a very early 11.75 build in RHD and the only one imported here until 1977. The Melbourne motor show car in 1976.

A humble 924 but I couldn't pass the chance at an important Aussie race car prepared by Alan Hamilton with input from the factory and piloted by a couple of Porsche factory legends Jurgen Barth and Roland Kussmaul ....to me one of the more important Aussie competition Porsches. Over 14 days and 18,885kms it finished 9th overall, 1st in class and the first International competition win for a 924. It's success and Barth's persistence is credited with launching the 924 Carrera GT and 924 Le Man's programmes.

I understand it might be one of only four Group 4 FIA papered cars, I need to look further into this; the FIA papers and rally build diagrams are with the car which is fantastic; I'm still going through them. Might also be the 1st RHD 924, I need to research this further also.

Still on it's original Vic rego plate ANK-727, too.

Bit of a barn find....which is an interesting story itself, but isn't that all part of the fun!

this is when I saw it in, and near, Canberra in 1979. For Michel and the other Canberra guys the top photo was, I think, in the Mt Stromlo forest, one of the rally stages that used to be held there, and the bottom was coming thru the city on the north side of Civic

Great find Stuart. I'dheard about this car about 2009-10 when talking to some older gents in the Canberra rally club and promptly forgot about it.. was it still owned by the rowbottom's?
