help wanted: brake reservoir hose fitment

Anyone have some clever ideas how to install the brake reservoir hoses into the rubber grommets on the master cylinder? I have put new grommets in, and for the life of me, I cannot get the hoses to seat properly. Everything is covered in rubber grease to no avail. I'm working under the car on jack stands so I can't get any leverage on anything either. Any ideas welcome.

I struggled a bit with this on my 75 Targa recently from underneath before eventually going inside the car to the pedal box area and with the two grommets removed I was able to coax the lines in.
