WRC Rally Portugal

As luck would have it we are in Porto this week and the WRC are finishing through a stage around the streets of the old town tonight. There is also a Classic car tour (and some old rally cars) around the town before that, including a number of Porsches, Renaults, Lancias and Audis.

First part of the day was spent with the historic rally cars and then the WRC ones around the lovely cobbled streets of Porto (prosaic enough Phil? ). We scouted the area the day before, knowing there would be many, many thousands of spectators. We found a nice cafe at the top of the city route and asked the owner if we could sit up on their second floor balcony the next day. They agreed and joined us. English lady from the Isle of Man, married to a Portuguese man were the owners.

My wife is not really a 'car person', but she really enjoyed the noise, the handbrake turns and whole drama of the afternoon, over a few glasses of the right stuff.

There is a display of 356's. 911's, Lancia Stradales, Audio Quattros, Escorts that we get to see tomorrow.

Standouts today in the WRC event were the VWs,and Hyundai's. These cars could do a U turn in your living room.
