    Wheel question

    Hi,
I'm considering changing rims and tyres on my 1971. Currently deep 6x15 on rear and flat 6x15 front. They should all be deep but must have gotten swapped out at some stage.

So, what are rim options? Can I fit 7x15 all round? Or is standard 7 offset for rear not suitable for my car and need the 7r type? People mostly talk about 7r for SWB.

Also, is there a difference in narrow body over the years?

    65-68 SWB longhood narrow
    69 - 73 LWB longhood narrow
    74 - 77 LWB shorthood narrow
    78+ LWB shorthood SC flares

The early cars came with 5" and 5.5" and 6" fuchs - why? Is there a difference the the "narrow"?

    Cheers, Jason

I think you will definitely struggle to fit 7" wheels and tires to yr SWB car. Of course choice of tire size will also affect clearances.

Hi Phil, my car is a LWB. Were there arch changes between SWB and LWB?

        Yes different arch profile.

You can generally fit 7's all round if you don't go crazy with tyre widths and if your car is not super low. You may need to play with your suspensions camber to make it work.

          What Cam said.

I could fit 7's on my SWB but had to have the heights and cambers set accordingly.

I guess the question is why you are doing it. The tyres you can fit on the 7's are around the same you can fit on the 6's.

            Hey Alex,
Well one reason is that I wanted to match my wheels. I've got a mix of 6s (2deep & 1flat), so just investigating if 7's fit before I start a search. When I started to research I found so many different forum post on pelican with 100s of conflicting views (probably based on arch profiles of different cars) that it would be good to understand options.

I'm also in need of tyres. I'm currently running 195/60/15 and wanted to try move to a 205/60 in Advan A048 - but can't find any locally. The other option is historic TB15 etc, but these come in 170/65 or 215/55. I'd prefer something wider than 170, but the 215 I don't think will fit?

I'm gearing up to start doing a few track days. My regular driving is low enough not to worry about wear on softer compounds.

            Thoughts?

I've gone as skinny as 4.5's all the way up to 8's on a 901. The 7's will fit without too many issues however I think it depends on how much power you have and what you're using the car for. If the car is otherwise standard (no crazy power) & used primarily for road driving with the occasional track day I would stick with 6 x 15's as they are a good compromise and look right on the car. Moving to 7" will just burn your money and not give you much of an improvement IMHO.

Gordon Leven Motorsport tyres in NSW carry the AO48R in 205/60 15.
They happily shipped mine to my local JAX franchise here in Newcastle.

                    Hi Graeme,
Mine should be deep, so I'll probably be searching too. Maybe we work together to buy a set and split?

i decided to sell my other deep six set . it's an unrestored set, so never been polished/painted very good conditions with some marks on the outer lips. it's a matching number set which makes it's more interesting , all dated 3-70 on the pictures you will see also the rubbers but those are very old and i will take them off i'm asking 3400 euro including shipping in all europe pictures here :

                        What do you think?

3400 euro is $5200 AUD and they still need to be refurbished.
Maybe other members know what to expect to pay
