    How would you feel?

I am not sure about the correct story but the way I see it is that if you go to a professional auctioneer to get the very best price then why didn't this car have a reserve?
This car sold at Shannon's for a very cheap price, now it is on eBay and you can have a look yourself. It's a very nice bus.

I would be pissed off of that was my car. However it is risky going to an Auctions but that is what I thought a reserve is for.

Its entirely up to the vendor what instructions he gave to the auctioneer. Do we know who the vendor was ? Maybe its a finance company who said sell it for whatever you can get on the day.

If someone bought it cheap then good luck to them.

Buying low then selling high - its been known to happen.......

I have never sold a car in an auction Phil. I didn't think about finance companies. Good point.

Maybe I need some more info before commenting.

Auctioneers are only interested in one thing - their commission. If a car (or even a house for that matter) sells a bit lower than the vendor expected, it hardly affects the auctioneers commission when you do the maths.

Who knows, it may even have been the widow selling dear, departed hubbies project car ? Maybe a member was at the auction and can shed some light on the pre-amble to this lot when it was offered. Auctioneers always love 'no reserve' as they are guaranteed a sale no matter what.

I learnt many auction tricks over the years accompanying my father to machinery & clearance sales. Many deals are done behind the scenes and all is not what it seems, even when you are standing there looking at the auctioneer.

No offence to any of our members who may be auctioneers.....

Nothing bad - it is an Australian produced camper conversion and had featured in a book about VW campers. Very few camper conversions done here at that time and even rarer for the interior to have survived.

                Hi Jim
See it failed to sell on Ebay not making the auction reserve. The last bid was at $50,781 not a lot above the $43,000 it made at Shannons. Hard to tell whether it was a real bid, plus there would have been additional costs involved in buying the car including freight and any other remedial work plus any costs in selling. IWhile it would appear that it was good buying at auction; at the end of the day it is worth what someone is prepared to pay on the open market.
