I discovered a spare copy of the Monterey Car Week Guide and will happily mail it anyone in Australia. First in wins.
I must say I t was an extraordinary event. Just the caliber of cars parked in the street on Saturday night in Carmel was at another level. To illustrate I've attached a picture I took of Mike Schein (US based Porsche racing driver) who casually parked his black 595 and walked before me into a restaurant.
You'll see I've attached an image of a Spyder which was parked on the side of the road and for sale. I was assured by the vendor and others that it was the real thing! There were heaps of people parked up in side streets trying to sell their classic car. One guy I met parked in the street, Mark Allen was asking 105k USD a restored 72 E had a Tenterfield connection. He runs Vintage Excellence in Cali.
There were many many other rare cars worth millions just driving around looking for street parking. I must have taken hundreds of photographs just in the streets in addition to the concours tour. From my hotel balcony I watched late into the night Ferarris, Lambros, and even a P1 Mclaren racing each other off the lights down the street.
I took the time to visit the Petersen Auto museum and did the vault tour. An absolute must for anyone visiting LA.
A highlight during the week was of course was Werks Porsche day, saw Magnus, et al.
I came away amazed and almost fatigued by the vast array of cars that make it to Monterey. I also developed an affection for French cars from the 1930s such as Bugatti, Delahaye, and Talbot Lago. These cars have an unmatch beauty and elegance. Worth visiting Mullins Auto Museum in LA, specialising in early French cars. See you soon on a drive. Best Wishes Paul
