I too, will fall hook, line and sinker. Like Phil, I have gone the IKEA option for display cabinets. Attached are some pictures of the models, and real versions taken from my visit to the Porsche Museum. I know which scale I would prefer to own!!

I am sorry to inform you Hugh, that yes, you have the disease too.
Outstanding collection and well laid out. What does your wife think ?
Seems you and Justin need to form some sort of AA type group.
I am sure there are many others on this forum with the same affliction. Maybe your photos might draw them out as well.
We have already seen it with watches.......sigpicPhil Lack

Phil
i have tried to explain that it is an investment - certainly the sums of money is - but with all investments you have to be able to realize them....and i am not too good on that side
but i told her that it cheaper than having a lot of the real onesHugh Hodges

Hugh, I think your collection and display speaks of your passion for historic race Porsches, although I do notice a few gaps on some of the shelves. Still hunting ??
And yes, I too justify it as some sort of investment but I obviously havent 'invested' as much as you have.sigpicPhil Lack

no the gaps are where i was shifting things from one part to another - eg some of the gaps are in the le mans winners cabinet... i have all of them but i rearranged them so some went with 917's and some with 936's
others where i was trying to do an evolution of the sports racers - i have most but put all the 917's together especially the 917/10's etc so they are now missing from the original line up
also it probably reflects changing priorities over time
lately i have been looking to have all the various WERKS RSR's from the 73 season and also a lot of the 911 based rally cars and similar so have not filled other gaps
when doing this you realize the enormous spread of competition history over timeHugh Hodges

Really nice Hugh.
Like you I go with themes - LeMans winners, Daytona 24 winners, Sebring 12 hour winners... and the arbitrary what I like.
If you don't focus your collecting it can get ugly quickly ... you look at 10 models and ask yourself why did I buy those?
On the rare occasion I've done that with a model or 2 ... its onto ebay with it.
I'd like mine to be more organized, but after packing and unpacking the collection 3 times in 3 years I just get them out and put like with like.
I see you have both the 84 and 85 Lemans winning 956's... a sign of a true collector.... as even though they were the same chassis they had subtly different liveries!Justin Reed
