It was very hot - no air in KYJ - and far too long in such weather conditions.
Upon reflection, the best runs are those where we start earlier (say 7:30) and finish at about 10-10:30, a morning tea, and then home by lunch (similar to when we go for a swim at Alex's Place) - and with minimal planning.
Yesterday was OK but the heat combined with slow motorbikes ("All the gear, but no idea") and bad mannered slow 4wd drivers made it very frustrating - not for me so much, but for the better an quicker drivers in the group - Alex, Phil, Carl, Paul, Mark.
At least you blokes didn't have Julie nagging you all the way home -

Anyway, a few snaps - and the hamburgers were as AV promised.

      "Boys in Blue"
There was a Police roadblock at Cumberland Junction checking licences and roadworthiness - in the hot sun - mainly bikers
Alex was on trade plates - apparently allowing a prospective purchaser to test the car - accepted. Paul had worn front tyres - a warning issued and he's out there at this minute purchasing a new set
The boys in blue were very friendly and courteous and luckily had a good sense of humour in such oppressive weather.

...........sorry Phil, I was too distracted pervin' on the young waitresses delivering them (without Julie noticing ). One resembled the Bucky Burger and the other, definitely the Cathedral

..............should be re-named The Buxom Run

I heard yesterday that the Igloo Roadhouse survived.

Apparently the Igloo survived along with the Pub & general store.

The Servo on the other side of town, heading toward Melb didn't.

It's hard to believe that we visited most of the places so badly hit just last week. Kinglake, Buxton, Marysville etc...
                  Its all so sad.
They are predicting the death toll may get close to 300.
Tell your kids you love them tonight and make sure you donate what you can to the appeal.

As soon as is reasonable (and appropriate), I say we go back to Buxton and spend as much money as we can there !!!

If there was a run, and I think as Andrew has hinted we'd need to be quite cautious about timing, then I believe we should do more than just turn up in our smart cars and spend up big at an eating house. We ought to do something practical. The blokes up there will be desperate for things like toolsas a lot of their sheds would have been burnt, if not their houses. So we could get all those redundant/superfluous spanners and shifters and hammers and mattocks and saws and power tools and whatever and give them to the Salvos and/or Red Cross up there for distribution. Things like clothing and food are usually well taken care of, but I'm supposing hardware is not so commonly thought of. The Red Cross/Salvos could advise on that.

(Brett - did you get my PM about St Andrews (and your place). I need a bit of info re St Andrews. Tks)

I think this a great, practical idea and tools are something that would not likely be donated.

A TYP901 tool run could be a great show of support. Would be a great garage "clean up" opportunity too.

But do we need to wait until they ahve somewhere to actually put them before we donate ? Seems like its a month or 2 before these would actually be appreciated nad put to use .

                        Any other thoughts ??
