Alex, that cage is fully FIA compliant and is amazingly strong and detailed. and I think the back seats bases are there to kneel on during assembly unless of course the rules call for "original" seating configuration to be maintained so its still a 2 + 2 coupe.

Am awaiting marks advice as to which dates suit he and Dave. Probably at least 3-4 weeks away still as I want my R to be running so I can drive it along for the day.

The cage is awesome, i was not knocking it, it would add amazing strength to the body, and can't imagine the work the that has gone into it alone!

NICE work on the ST - i assume its headed for group Nc historics racing? (2.3 litre?)

that cage is very impressive. in some areas it has more bars than the cage going into MY906, but less in others. very interesting to see the different approaches.

          The ST looks great!
Are the flares steel or 'glass?

          cheers

            John,

the rear flares are hand made steel to exact ST specs, the fronts are glass. Bodywork detail is superb. A couple of 901 members visited the workshop yesterday for a private look and were all impressed.

Front glass and rear steel often seems to be the case. Why not have steel flares up front as well? Is it a weight issue?
Whose handywork are those gorgeous steel flares btw.

              cheers

Dave Belford hand made the rear flares after much research.

I think front glass guards are correct for the ST. Dave can chime in and confirm.

Thanks everyone for the kind words on the ST project.

The car is, as Ryan suggested going to be raced in Group Nc Historics. The specs for this class allow glassfiber front guards so that is what we used to keep the weight down. I do know that some original ST's had steel front guards. As most would know the build specs on these special 911's varied somewhat. The engine size will be 2.3, again this is the largest capacity the class allows.
I must say it has been a pleasure to put my knowledge of historic Porsche race cars into a project like this, and I look forward to sharing it with everyone on the day.

                  Cheers, Dave.

                    Dave,

                    That's a great looking car.
Maybe you'll post a spec sheet on it
Is the engine based on a 2.2?
What sort bhp can you wring out of one of these?
Hopefuly you'll contest a round here in Sydney so we can see you in action

                    cheers

group n allows a 1mm overbore so you can go from a 84mm bore 2.2 to a 85mm 2.3 (standard 66mm short stroke). twin plugging is also allowed, as is MFI. north of 200hp is possible.

                        Ryan

do JE pistons/carrillo rod get a good rap in P engines for race/ fast street car applications or are Mahle still choice?
Keep hearing how 'bulletproof' carrillos are- seem like good value.
Any personal experience or know of any other 901ers who do?

                        cheers,

                        john
