This pic is from Ian Henderson's genuine RSR. I like the belt to remove the window winder... Food for thought...

I know, the rabbit hole is deep. Perspecs windows, quarter light delete, window mechanism delete, entire door card delete.

I even consider a gutter delete from the body pre-paint - but I am inhibited by respect of the original shell.

most of these mods are on my 70t Robin. it tips the scales at 960kg. the carbon fibre doors are probably the biggest weight saver, they feel like a feather to swing open, unlike a standard 901 door.
this is still my favourite car to date, loud, rough and raw. i drive my wifes car if i want comfort!

Its when you start drilling holes in door handles and hood and engine lid hinges that it gets pretty serious.

Here is a better pic of the door window, leather belt treatment from #19 - 911R (factory car) which shows how it attached to the bottom of the plexiglass window.

So Robin, do you know how much effective power your car will gain for each KG of weight reduced?

My old 65 was a light car.
All Perspex apart from the front screen . No door panels at all, quarter window delete as it was Perspex, no door unlock mechanism, late model alloy window frame to hold Perspex which was held up or down with a screw, foam seats that weighed about 2kgs each, fibreglass bonnet, deck lid. All brakes discs were crossed drilled including the handbrake drum, all hinges for bonnet deck lid etc were cross drilled, fibreglass front and rear bumpers, cross drilled transmission mounts, plastic headlight covers, it’s was also a 2.0 litre original case with 2.8 RSR P&C’s out to a short stroke 2.6 litre with a custom alloy handmade exhaust on Weber’s with “S” cams and 2.4 S heads. It was running flat 6 Fuchs and semi slicks that he probably filled with helium and was an extremely light fun car with a factory ZF lsd. I weighed it twice and both times sub 820kgs. When it was send overseas the transport company weighed it but it was 798kgs and I think the were wrong.
It was loud and raw which wasn’t great for highway driving without ear plugs.
I have a standard weight 69 now with a kick arse 2.9 litre engine which is just as much fun but a little more comfortable. I prefer the 69 over the stripped bare car.
Like I mentioned before, you can keep some luxury an still have a weapon of an engine and it’s still a lot more desirable than a stock car, no offence to those who prefer stock.

all hot ords need a balsa gear knob

Porsche used a wooden shift knob for 2 of its race cars, a laminated balsa wood knob for the 908, and a laminated birch wood knob for the 917. Attempts have been made to reproduce them, most use other woods because they like the contrast between different types, when the natural contrast is obtained from the 90 degree rotation of the laminations when the wood is assembled before turning. I make them all with power tools (lathe, thickness sander), NO CNC machines, so every knob is unique. I

i also have a set of fully rebuilt Brembo front callipers to sell or swap if you are interested pm me

No idea. I am just running from a quote I heard from Ferry Porsche (I think) around just making racing cars lighter rather than adding more power and more brakes. Just seems like a good philosophy to build a car around.

Does anyone have a quantitative measure on what 1KG weight saving really gains in performance?

Porsche and every other manufacturer made their race cars lighter only for one reason. It was because they had strict ruling on messing with the supposedly factory engine specs.
The 2.8 RSR engine wasn’t around when the 911R was built.
                      Power to weight ratio

This guy has taken it to the extremes and I wish he would finish it.
