    Shift linkage tunnel cover

    Hi everyone.

Does anyone know if the cover over the shift linkage was changed from one with vents to a fully closed or solid version for a new MY or was the cover chosen depending on some other aspect of the car; e.g. air con that needed venting or was it the model type?

I have a Feb 69 production 911E that has a solid version (with carpet glued to it).

I have seen a 1969 T with a vented cover but it did not have any air con or other feature different from mine.

    cheers

        Thanks Clyde.

happy to have a little project.

will call Aporschapart tomorrow, hopefully they have a few in stock

btw. the 911T I looked at had some sort of foam underneath.

A bit of baking in the oven does the trick

So when did they change to solid (my 72 is solid) and what’s the purpose / functional difference of the solid vs vented? I just thought it was an access point for the shift linkage/ bush replacement.

Changed 72 and I am not aware of why it used to have a vent style

Ventilated covers doubled up as vent for the Webasto petrol heater system which pretty much no RHD car ever got.

Marcus: did you prime, undercoat it before wrinkle finish?

Does wrinkle finish need baking to set properly or does the baking change the texture?
