I guess many of you who have followed the news of the devastating fires in Gippsland (Victoria) which are currently raging out of control, will have seen the sad news that the Jinks Creek Winery at Tonimbuk has been totally destroyed.
For those members unaware, the owner, Andrew Clarke was a former TYP901 member and on Sunday 8th June 2014 we had a great club run which culminated at the Jinks Creek Winery, where we enjoyed a wonderful lunch and refreshments in the restaurant - and it's very sad to hear (and see) that the years (decades) of toil by Andrew and Abby, who built the vineyard and restaurant from scratch - a lifetime's work - obliterated in a matter of minutes.
As a reminder to those who attended and for interest to others please browse the attached link for the story of our day.
The photos on page 6 are of our cars parked in the grounds of the Winery.
Although it's probably too soon now (he'll have enough on his hands in the immediate period), I will put a proposal to committee that we contact Andrew over the next few weeks and ask what we can do as a club to assist in his recovery - whether it be a cash donation, physical working bees or any services that individual club members may be able to offer.
Any suggestions are welcome.
BTW, I pen this without consent or approval of committee - so I hope I'm not out of line. I can't imagine the tragedy that he and his family are suffering right now, but I guess we should just let things settle for a while before we proceed with any action - at least until all the fires are extinguished. In any event no one will be allowed into the area for some time yet - but at least we can develop a plan of action.
