No Rich, they are both colour pics. It makes quite a difference when you see then side by side doesnt it ?
I will post some more comparison pics once I have them. The engine certainly has come up a whole lot cleaner and some black paint, plating etc has done it wonders in appearance.

And yes, I was wondering if the new owner also has boxes of toothbrushes in his garage ?

Well the engine was re-installed today and she fired up almost first time. All the oil leaks appear to have been resolved as there were a lot of small ones plus leaky oil return tubes that now have all new O rings.
I must say that these heat exchangers on this car are about the best I have seen ever. Usually they are all dinged up but these have but a very few flaws. The new grey paint on these and the muffler helps transform the look underneath the car as does all the other new paint and plating.
Here are some more pics for those who are following this thread. Anyone contemplating such a "birthday" for their car should go and have a chat to Kane. He's getting pretty good at doing these refreshes now. I think I am number 9 so far, plus he has his own 72 911E that is about to recv the same treatment.
And yes Clyde, your 73S Targa did look better but this car hasnt had nearly the amount of $$$$ spent on it to get it to this condition. It has been a good exercise doing this this to a fairly tight and controlled budget, yet not precluding any unforseen problems that were mandatory to fix (such as a new Dizzy cap and new leads, new engine mounts all around, replacing all the "incorrect" hose clamps with the right ones, new urethane bushes replacing all the old rubber ones.etc).

Hung, yes I did consider that as well, however, I want the next owner to make that choice as there are varying levels of paint you can go to.
I think it just needs a good prep, some minor ding repairs, then repaint back to silver and then this is a very clean and original car.
Last night I emailed the workshop that looked after the car most of its life. The immediately replied saying they knew the owner and her family well and invited me to drop in for a coffee when I am in LA in 2 weeks time.
They said the owner and her father were keen enthusiasts and looked after their cars well. And the pile of receipts I have seem to attest to that as well. the same lady owned the car for 30 years and its only had one other.

Looks like I will pick up the car tomorrow (Friday). Not bad to get all that work done in just under 3 weeks. I could never have gotten it done myself that quickly.

I drove the car for the first time after its "birthday at Kanes" and cant believe just how good all new suspension, tyres and bushes feel compared to some of my other cars.
Although I havent ever driven a brand new 911, surely this must be how it feels. And despite not really having done much to the engine other than adjust valve clearances, clean out and lube the distributor, new leads, plugs and dizzy cap plus a tune up, the motor runs beautifully with lots of low down tourque - even better than my 911E coupe (although this has "S" cams in it).
They do say that a 911T is the best daily driver and I am fast becoming a fan. I would really like to drive a 2.4T on carbies to compare it to this MFI engine and see if its that noticeable. Am even considering keeping the car since it drives so well.
I even had the original steering wheel recovered in leather with slightly more padding in it than normal and this really helps contribute to the light feel of the car. I had forgotten what these wheels were like since all the other cars have smaller dia. Momos etc.
I expect to bring the car along on Sat 23 Aug. and use it as one of the example cars when talking about original bodywork and finishes.
I hope to see as many new members along that morning as can make it.
