    Tacho help needed

I currently have a Tacho dated 65' and a Mallory Super CD 28600 ignition.

I purchased a Tach Adapt as previous owner apparently researched it.

I can't get the Tacho to work!!!!

    Any help would be appreciated

    I have 3 outputs from Mallory .

    1. +12v
    2. Points
    3. + Coil

I have 3 wires in back of Tach

    1. +12
    2. 1 (which is tach wire straight through to the engine)
    3. not sure!!!!

I was thinking about upgrading the whole lot as I have read that the tach will not work unless modded.
So do I send Tach away to be modded and upgrade to a MSD setup (or similar) or does someone know a quick fix.

    Confusing yes I know.

Jim, what's your 'plan' for the car? Are you currently using the Kettering (stock) points and coil?

MSD/Crane is a great upgrade but in truth any CD upgrade is good and multiple spark discharge (MSD) is not that necessary for a general road car.

I sent all of my guages away to Nth Hollywood Speedo for service and cosmetic clean up. Helmut does an awesome job. The tacho is automatically upgraded as part of the serice to receive any signal from any system. He also converts the clock to a hidden quartz drive for accurate time keeping Cost me about $1k including postage to and from the US and all new artwork (re-printed guage faces and new needles).

Points and coil. John. Are you thinking put it back to original setup?
I haven't had a tacho working since I got it so no problem. I have a 7200 rpm rotor button rev limiter to save breaking things.
My gauges are pretty good but my clock needs some work.

        Plans for the car?????
Plod along for another year and then pull it off the road for respray and rust removal. Not really interested at going back to stock (original). I don't have the time or patience at this stage of life. When I am retired I may but that is a long way away. I like silver not the original Light Ivory.
The car is far from original at the moment so may as well keep the theme going.

Are you mixing a different engine with that year tacho? perhaps you could email or phone Bob at AshlockTech.

Jim there is a guy at Logan south of Brisbane who specialises in VDO gauge work - he does lots of cars.
