Alternators and fan housings

The Marchal alternator in the 3.0 in my 74 has spat a bearing. When I pulled it I discovered multiple cracks in the (930.106.101.0R) housing. I have a "spare" Motorola alternator in a (901.106.101.5R) housing from the 71.
Hoping for help with these questions please:
- are cracks in the housing terminal or "par for the course"?
- can I direct swap the Motorola alternator in 901 housing for the Marchal in 930 housing?

In my experience cracks are common and terminal.

Not exactly sure of variations in 5R and 0R housings but if you can make up a complete assembly with what you have (ie as long as the fan fits the housing) you should be good to go.

Thanks Chris. Going to stick the whole 901 assembly in there with fan and alternator while I sort the 930 housing. The more I looked the more cracks I found
