        Painting the Deck Lid

I picked up a very nice deck lid from Mrar. He kindly packed it impeccably for the trip from WA. It had a couple of small pressure dents from some over enthusiastic closing, but was totally rust free, and filler free.

I did an initial fit up. All was good. So this weekend end I filled the dents and gave it a high build prime. I wasn't going to paint it but I went back tonight and shot some colour on it. Here's the result.

          Paint Correction

I also played around with a little paint correction. The paint on the Targa has been laid on way too thick. There is dust in the surface and the paint has sagged as it dried.

I thought I would have a play on the rear guard before I painted the decklid, in case I thought the red was a lost cause and I would just paint id back to white.

As it turned out I dont think the paint was every cut and buffed. I went from 1200 to 1500 and then 2000 wet and dry. I got most of the sag along the quarter out. I did a full buff by hand first....ouch. Then I ran the DA over it. I think I can correct pretty much all of the mistakes the painter made, with some patience.

Far out Tim that 1/4 looks really good.
Glad the lid worked out well. (took some effort to pack for the trip)

                Butt Back

Finally got the lid on and polished up. Really happy with the result for a home job...

Much better Tim. Bernard would have to look more than twice to recognize his old car.

                            And The Tartan is in!

The interior has turned out exactly as I had envisiged. I am chuffed with the result. Even the SWB dash pad gives it a lift IMHO.

It was a late night in the workshop but so worth it.
