3 months after the paint went on and it's still not home. The interior is taking longer than expected, although a certain global pandemic, who shall not be named, has had a part to play..

Anyway, today I discovered that my car had the uber rare "Lumber Support Option"*... yes lumber, not lumbar. See pic. This piece of timber was shoved into the seat back along with a bunch of random foam...

    * Thanks to Scott for coming up with the name!

That is nuts - obviously couldn't source any rubber strapping?

BTW: are the old covers original?

I believe so. They are in decent condition but being replaced with new material, and I've opted for the houndstooth inserts - will look smashing when done. The houndstooth should have arrived today, and given the rest of the seat covers are already done the trimmer only needs to cut and sew up the inserts. Hoping early next week to see them! Thankfully the springs and bases were in good condition and only need a tidy up.

I ordered new foam inserts from SMC on Friday and they arrived yesterday (yes, Friday -> Tuesday). Still waiting on interior lights I ordered from Porsche almost 2 weeks ago that are coming up from Melbourne...

It's coming together - pics from yesterday attached.

What colour are the seat belts going to be?

            Like these?

Gavin - Could you take & post a close-up photo of the underneath side of old seat covers (if they are handy)

Probably just stick with black, but we're looking at options now.

@Mark, I'm not with the car now. Will ask the trimmer to grab me a couple of pics. And yes, like that, but the houndstooth with the green highlight through it - to tie in the exterior of the car.

Gavin, I’m almost certain they weren’t the original seat covers on the front seats, because it had that lovely brown corduroy option originally. I think when the corduroy was replaced, they re-covered the entire seats. The rear seat covers were original though.

                  OK.

                  I like the green touch.

The reason I would like a pic of original covers is that I am replacing mine also (not original) with a kit from Autos International in SoCal (black with houndstooth inserts).

One of the issues is exactly how the listing cord, which creates the 'tuck fold" in original 356 & early 911/912 Porsche seats by compressing the underlying cushion (coconut fibre) (see attached photo), was actually attached to the underside of the seat cover.

There are various methods but the underside of a totally original cover may provide a definitive answer.

BTW: rather than purchase moulded foam seat bottoms and back rests - I have purchased original style coconut fibre replacements from Germany.

You're right Scott, I'd selectively erased the Corduroy option!!

The green highlight is almost invisible in these pics, but it's there and looks amazing..!

I had to order 15 metres to get this made in Scotland with blue included.
