    CTS: 1971 2.2s #0524

They have priced the car now, $185,000.

    Kilometres 46,222
    VIN 9111300524

This 1971 Porsche 911 2.2 S Coupe was delivered on the 12th Jan 1971 to its first Australian owner who opted at the time for 'tourist delivery' (this means the order is placed in Australia and they take delivery directly from Porsche in Germany) in this case it was driven to Italy, in fact 3 days after delivery and 854 miles later they were in Rome and the first stamp shows this.

Specified in Light Ivory with Black leather in basketweave pattern this Australian RHD spec car also was optioned with rear wiper, chrome fender, strips, fog lights, Phillips Radio Cassette, tinted glass, electric sun roof and electric windows - a very high spec car and expensive at the time.

Kept by the looks of it in Rome by the owner for approx. 12 months the car then came to Australia where it has been in long term ownership and has been cared for and pampered all its life and the superb originality is all there to see.

It has been repainted at some time in its life but all the rare leather basketweave trim is in place and in fact the interior is superb and the car has a lovely feel that is so often lost in a restored car.

These very rare original RHD S model Porsches are now firmly in the investment grade bracket with the rare 2.7 RS models now, well over $500k. In fact some of the Porsche purists consider the 2.2 S to have, the sweeter and faster revving engine with a better power delivery than the 2.4, all I can say is that it is wonderful to drive, so smooth and powerful and that razor sharp steering feeding back all the information from the road surface, with the howling flat six pushing you along it's a great sensory experience that cannot fail to get you excited.

It's expensive but one thing is certain they are only going one way in value and that's not down!

The car comes with all its original delivery books including radio manual, roof car brochure and service book in its original wallet - very nice indeed!

Really ! I would have thought CTS knew their early 911 options better.

The car has perforated leather inserts on the sports seats, not basketweave.

Basketweave was an imprinted pattern moulded into the vinyl and not possible with leather (as far as I have seen). Perhaps Clyde might jump in here and correct me as he has owned plenty of original recaro sports seats.

Basketweave should look like these pics below, although these are not original Porsche materials, rather currently available materials. There are previous threads showing correct Porsche supplied basketweave for dash and door trim.

There was no mention of the leather Recaro sports seats in the ad and these alone are a very noteworthy option..

      Hi Phil,

Weren't these seats standard on the 2.2S that was delivered to Australia? They look the same as the ones in my car.

12 months in rome? Car has had a cooler life than me (not hard i guess) Would love to do a stint there as a person.... maybe not a car.... what's the Italian word for "bumping in traffic?!" Let alone the way they park!!

Yes Phil basketweave on the dash and door trims is correct and perforated centres on the sports seats is also correct

Looks like a very nice example for sure

Rear window wiper is missing now it seems

I'd say it's the most original 70-71S I've seen so far in Australia. Here's a photo of the car surrounded by admirers at the German Motor Show a couple of months ago (taken by Rob Scheeren).

The two dodgy looking boys lurking near it are actually my sons!!

Noob question time. It's expensive, but is it a good price?

In the current scramble for good cars who is to know, I remember when a 73 S hit $100k and we all said it was stupid money.

I would say it not too far from a fair price if the car is what is reported to be.

The 71 S at Bowdens recently sold for not much less that is being asked for this one.

A very nice '69 T sold in Adelaide last week for $100k.

                  The market is moving!

For the G series you'd have to go for something delivered in more limited numbers.

For me the Carrera 3.0 looks very attractive. The 3.2 Clubsports don't come up very often and are already pretty exie.
