    hahaha ribbed....for her pleasure!

The earliest of the Oval Beetles (pre march 55) are the most sought after models of that series because of all the beautiful one-year only parts.

Everything from the ribbed doors, bonnet, front and rear seats, fuel tank, all handles, tail lights, guards, pedals cluster, regulator, etc is specific to the model, making my job piecing together this April 1954 project a living hell!

Craig's Bug is a beautiful example, mine is a long way away! At least it still has its OG Clayton Green paint...

I'm still none the wiser what a ribbed door looks like?
The crease above the door panel in Mervs pic?

That's correct, the ribbed doors and the 'heart' tail lights like on mine are the two most obvious parts for spotters to tell the early ones apart from the later ones. Oh and the straight gear shifter too!

          The later doors for comparison

Decided it's about time I started to use the car more than a couple of times a year... A few things to get sorted but looking forward to it.
