Clyde I'm only asking because you appear to be applying the same level of detail to this car as all your others .... how are you feeling about the finish on that fuel tank?

Haven't done any research on that part yet, other issues taking precedence. If I get the carpet right it will be hidden............ said like a true car dealer

Heaaaaaaaps of conjecture on ESR to wade through, but general consensus is some shade of gray Wurth or similar..... I think mine is a little too light perhaps, but it also gets discoloured / darker pretty quickly if the car is being used.

Apparently in some of the original cars it appears nearly black.

I always liked to refer to this set of images of a rather unmolested 68 car https://get.google.com/albumarchive/...CJSxuqrwmaS9Uw

This 68 thread also suggests 'black', but I suspect that it if in a grey primer, it darkened over time. http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...0-1968-details

For the 65 Chris? I seemed to recall they had no texture in the paint application. Altho Jim B suggested not http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...s-and-textures . Others swear the smooth coating was the go on the very earliest. There are so many ESR threads on these and Karmann v's Reutter and so on. There is also a theory that the SWBs had a slightly darker Wurth SKS-type coating than the LWBs. I give up

I would wager that gloss smooth finish in not correct for a '68

                  Merv

Thanks for posting those two links lots of good reference pics in there for me to look over

At the very least it seems to confirm my thoughts on the ivory/cream headliner with 2 tone visors

This is another one Clyde, but has a few contentious aspects http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...ongues-wagging

Definitely not a gloss smooth finish in my '68

Ok it seems early car was not specific enough for some people, my picture is of a 1965 fuel tank in the correct shade of grey, the purpose of my picture was to show the grey colour, it was not to suggest that 1968MY cars had a smooth finish.

That '65 is going to be a beauty Chris.

Textured Black looks like it is winning to me. Certainly all the 100 litre steel tanks from 67, of which a few have passed through my hands, were black some textured some not.
