Guys, I have been looking at 993's for a while and they are getting more affordable. After driving a few, I realised they are great as a daily car with a superb engine and gearbox. Way easier to drive daily than a 901 car.

there are some good buys around now and anyone with an Aussie delivered 72 or 73 S could easily trade one for a great '97 993 Twin turbo.

I doubt I will go beyond the air cooled cars as these represent the pinnalce of Porsche air cooled technology to me. theres no doubt the rear suspension on teh 993's is fantastic. My cars has an optional LSD as well and I just beginning to explore what this means to performance and handling.

I guess I am going thru a progession of models at present, but I did skip the 964. It never appealed due to body shape. Too boxy for me. Although a 964RS could convince me.

Still, I am hanging onto the 72E as my all time keeper.

Will bring the 993 along on the next run, whenever that is.

Shane, pic was taken at sellers house. its in my garage now, all tucked in and dry. But black is a nightmare to keep clean, especially with water restirctions and no hosing cars.

I think I wil driv eup to Sydney for the Boat Show and suggested Melb/Syd get together as proposed in the Calendar (early August I think ?)

Great move Phil - as you know I am in the market for similar when I finally get my garage reno sorted. I think they are exceptional value if you find the right car. There is a big debate of course 993 vs 996 - the latter are now similarly priced IMO. What do you think re medium to long term values? My gut feeling is that the 996 is "the model between" ie transitional from the air cooled trad 911 and the fantastic watercooled 997. So it will probably lose value quicker than the 993, which will probably hold their value? But for a daily driver its probably great also if you do your research, arent in a hurry and can get the right car at the right price.

Actually I think it would be good to move this discussion out of this thread into a new one.

Can't let Phil have all the fun! A few weeks old and I've clocked up 4K, 10% of its total mileage. What a drive!

Oh and the Prototipo is finally in with the 10,000 rpm tacho and clock delete. Bloody clock never worked anyway!

Time to tidy up the wiring now I think

                                Phil

A mate of mine gave me the Halda!! I need it for the Classic Adelaide anyway and traded the Terratrip for another deep six Fuchs. And the Smiths are poor mans Heuers so weren't too expensive

I know what you mean though, there's still plenty of go fast stuff on the wish list!!

Hmmmm let me see - S callipers, Koni front struts, aluminium deck lid, twin plugging etc etc
