                911R takes shape

Guys, took these shots today of the 911R project car. its virtually ready for paint now and has all the bits fitted, gapped, rubbed down etc.

Max has done a great job in trying to authentically reproduce as many details of the original car from the many photos I have downloaded from the various websites around dedicated to 911R (Ernie Willbergs in particular at: http://www.pbase.com/911r).

This is not a project for the faint hearted either as finding the donor car then all the bits is a real challenge.

Will see just how soon in the New Year we can get all the bits into the car and working again.

The colour choice was the subject of an extensive discussion a while ago on the Early S register board.

As far as I am concerned, there really is no other colour for this historically significant racing Porsche than white with black lettering.

I am just now deciding what shade of white we use. Interior is all satin black. its really quite a simple car to paint and has very little "jewelery".
Below is a pic of one of the factory cars (only 20 built with 4 prototypes).

                        Phil

Do you have a really good engine for the car?
If not, I may be able to assist. Details available if interested.

                            Peter,

what do consider "really good " Is it a 906 engine ? twin plug 210 BHP ? I have a 2.0 ltr engine on webers that we are going to strip down and warm up a little but cant justify the bucks yet to go to twin plug, correct 906 911R engine.

let me know what you have available.

                              Mike,

here is a picture of what it looked like at the beginning.

You really need to use your imagination on this to see whats actually underneath.

Car started life as a 1966 911 plain jane.

I can post more pics of the progress along the way , manly the rust repairs and body work to get it back to how it looks now, which is close to a 911R but doesnt have the slight front guard flares or proper rear guard treatment.

I wont have a set of 7R wheels for it but the deep 6's being finished at Harvey Weidmans should look nice.
