Alloy deck lid form the roof stash is now in play Dave has welded up the badge holes and got it prepped for painting
Also been working on closing off the floor drain holes which are used in the painting proces to drain out excess paint and then covered over with a patch on the inside and covered in body deadner from the underside. As none of that will be on this car we need to stop and water coming in so closing them off too.

My understanding is that they were done as drain holes for the painting process which were then filled with bitumen material and covered with body deadner undernearth and more bitumen matting on top.
I am unsure when they started and stopped that process as I have only ever fully stripped 72 or 73 carsClyde Boyer

The research I did on the holes echos earlier explanations relating to the later corrosion prevention techniques.
E-coating is a process where the chassis is immersed in a thin emulsion (not really paint) and a charge is then passed through the chassis. Coating molecules are drawn to the metal ensuring a full and even coat over all surfaces. The chassis is withdrawn and those holes form part of the draining process. And I think they did it with the heater "mufflers" in place as the ones I pulled definitely had black residue. I saw the excellent results first hand when I cut up the donor SC shell for my project - not a spec of rust until I made some cuts...
As I understand it, galvanising was introduced gradually and panel by panel starting with the floor pan. Porsches were never "hot-dipped" in a galvanising bath like you would a trailer etc...
I was told a lot of early rally cars had the floors cut like Clyde's as they got wet regularly and it was a good way to drain them...John Forcier
