    Should be fine Clyde. I would use some good tape on top and a fine drill first maybe. One of these might be useful:

      Damm...holes are welded oh well at least I can drill with more abandon now

        Try and drill from the inside of the lid. It is very easy for the drill to slide and scratch the paint even with masking tape in place.

          Can't as you need to follow a template from the top as I couldn't a
          100% tell where the letters where previously and there are some lumpy bits of metal underneath where a hole was so drill would slip even more.

          Lots of measuring using the lid off the Oxford blue car and I think I did OK, only one minor error which was/is easily fixed

          I have never looked at these on any car to see if they were straight or not so just followed the other lid
